Homework
Homework is assigned to help students develop good study habits and to provide reinforcement or enrichment of previously taught concepts. Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday. Students are expected to do the homework INDEPENDENTLY. If they are unable to do a problem, they can circle it and come ask me in the morning. Each student has a Homework Folder that is to be taken home and then returned to school the next day. It is imperative for their success in the classroom to do the homework assignments nightly. We go over the previous night’s homework EACH DAY in class, so it is important for your child to have their homework done each night. Homework should not exceed 50 minutes per day. There is an incentive for students when they have ALL of their homework for the day complete AND correct. Please support your child in meeting homework expectations.
Homework consists of three parts:
1. DRC (Daily Reading Comprehension): The daily reading program provides students with opportunities to practice reading strategies and comprehension skills while thinking about and responding to a variety of passages and texts. Multiple choice and written questions must be answered for credit. Students are also required to use our reading strategies once introduced in Quarter 1.
2. Math: Math homework is aligned with daily math instruction. It also provides a review of previously taught concepts. Students are expected to show their work.
3. Nightly Reading: Students are expected to read for 20 minutes per night (for a total of 80 minutes per week). This is pleasure reading and can be any book they want. There will be times when RAZ-Kids is assigned as nightly reading as well.
Thank you for your support! Please email me with any questions! ☺
